Stillwater Man Says First Responder's CPR Instructions Saved His Wife's Life

Detailed CPR instructions from a Washington County 911 dispatcher saved his wife's life, Chris Jesmer says.

A Stillwater man credits a Washington County 911 dispatcher’s detailed instructions for saving his wife's life. Chris Jesmer said he woke up in the middle of the night recently after he heard a deep snore from his wife, Jeanine.

He tried shaking her to wake her up, but she did not move.

WCCO reported that Chris, scared for his wife's life, called 911. “It was terrifying,” Chris said.

The dispatcher who picked up the call gave Chris calm, detailed instructions on how to perform CPR on Jeanine.

“Put you hand on her forehead and then tilt her head back, OK?” The dispatcher said. “I want you to push down firmly and you need to do it quickly, OK?”

Chris and the dispatcher worked together for four minutes to keep the blood pumping through Jeanine’s heart until first responded Lynn Sommer and Kelly Shingledecker-Larson were on the scene.

“When we got there, she was what I would call ‘dead with agonal breaths,'” Shingledecker-Larson said.

Shingledecker-Larson says the CPR saved Jeanine's life.

“Honestly, I think that that was the reason that she is here today,” Shingledecker-Larson added.
