Stillwater Police Cite Juvenile Who Hit Cyclist with Lock Thrown from School Bus

A student has been issued a juvenile citation after he hit a bicyclist with a lock thrown from a school bus.
The incident occurred at about 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6, when a cyclist on McKusick Road near felt something hit his back, according to a police report. He initially thought he had been shot or hit by a golf ball.
The man reported the incident to police, who staked out the area the next day, the report says. At 2:30 p.m. a bus came past and an officer pulled it over.

The bus driver told an officer he was aware of the incident and had written the student up, but he didnβt know the object had hit someone.
Police contacted school officials, who told officers the student had already been suspended for the last day of school because of previous issues on school grounds.

The student told police one of his peers encouraged him to throw the padlock from the bus, according to the report. The officer told the student the case could have been more serious had the cyclist been severely injured, and noted the speed limit along that stretch of road is 40 mph.
The student was issued a juvenile misdemeanor fifth-degree assault citation.
