Stillwater Police: Make Sure to Lock the Doors

Stillwater police responded to two separate incidents this week of intoxicated men wandering into unlocked homes.

Stillwater police are reminding residents to lock their doors after officers responded to two separate incidents of drunken men who walked into unsecured homes this week.

The first incident was reported at about 5:45 a.m. Sunday, June 19 when police were called to a report of a stranger walking around inside of a home in the 900 block of 6th Avenue.

Three adults and two children were sleeping Sunday morning when a 39-year-old Stillwater man allegedly walked into a bedroom and said, β€œHey, what’s going on.” The man then walked down the stairs and into an office area where he was confrontedβ€”and β€œcame to a realization that he was in a stranger’s home,” the police report states.

When police arrived, the officers found the man inside of the home. He was barefoot, disheveled, and according to the police report, β€œit appeared that he had urinated himself quite heavily.”

When police conducted a search, the officer allegedly found a small amount of marijuana and a pipe in the man’s pocket.

Police believe the man entered the home through an unlocked garage service door, took his shoes off, went up to the main level, vomited in a bathroom toilet and then headed up the stairs where the bedrooms are located.

A preliminary breath test resulted in a .24 alcohol content. The man was jailed and cited for disorderly conduct, possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Then on Monday, June 20 at about 4 a.m. police were called to a townhome in the 1100 block of Curve Crest Boulevard for a report that a woman's neighbor, a 47-year-old Stillwater man, entered her home β€œobviously intoxicated” and wanted to buy some booze.

The man allegedly began to flirt with the woman and refused to leave when asked multiple times. After about 15 minutes the man left and walked home, the report states.

When police arrived, the homeowner asked that the officers talk with the man because he had entered her home before, and had allegedly been caught β€œpeeping into her window and randomly sitting on her patio furniture.”

The officer knocked on the man’s door, and when he answered police told him not to contact the woman, to go inside and sober up, the report states. As the officer walked back to his squad, the man allegedly yelled β€œyou better watch your back” to his neighbor.

The man was then arrested, cited for disorderly conduct and released to a β€œresponsible adult,” the report states. The man’s alcohol content was .24, according to police.
