Stillwater Police Ramp Up DWI Patrols Ahead Of St. Patrick’s Day
Stillwater police are handing out "Designate O'Driver" coasters at bars to give people something to think about while they're celebrating.

STILLWATER, MN — St. Patrick’s Day revelers should expect to see an increased police presence on Stillwater roads as officers try to crack down on drunk driving during the holiday.
Stillwater police are adding extra DWI patrols, with downtown bars expected to welcome large crowds during the holiday that’s become an annual drinking celebration.
Increased patrols will be “all over, all the time,” and not just limited to downtown or nights, Stillwater Community Resource Officer Brad Junker told Patch.

Junker said the Stillwater Police Department is expecting “increased activity downtown” over the long St. Patrick’s Day weekend, especially if the weather is nice.

Stillwater police are handing out “Designate O’Driver” coasters at local bars to give revelers something to think about while they’re celebrating.
“Designate O’Driver on St. Patrick’s Day,” the coasters read. “Get a DWI and swallow this: Potential jail time, loss of license for up to a year, and thousands of dollars in costs.”

“Have a plan for a sober ride: Call a cab, designate a sober driver, or spend the night at the location of the celebration,” the coasters read.
