Stillwater Police: Squatters Found In Tent and a Stolen Car

Stillwater Police Blotter: Oct. 27-30.

Thursday, Oct. 27:

  • A tent was found in Lily Lake Park with used toiletry items scattered around the tent. There were signs that someone had been living in the tent. Officers later discovered the tent belonged to a couple that was recently released from jail for check fraud. The couple allegedly used stolen checks to pay for their motel room at America’s best Value Hotel in Stillwater.

Saturday, Oct. 29:

  • A woman allegedly was throwing glasses after her friend hit a man at Brine’s Bar.
  • A heavily intoxicated woman threw her purse at friend, and kicked her vehicle after the friend would not let the woman drive home. The woman took off on foot and was later found in the woods, laying on the ground. She was released to detox.

  • A 29-year-old St. Paul woman and a 26-year old-man hit a telephone pole after leaving a bar in Stillwater. The female was transported to Regions Hospital with serious injuries. The man was transported to the hospital with a concussion. The vehicle was reported stolen by the woman’s friend prior to the accident. According to the report, the woman told her friend she was going out to the vehicle to get some clothing she left in there and never came back with the vehicle. The 29-year-old woman is facing several charges including: criminal vehicle operation, DWI, theft of motor vehicle and an open container charge. A glass of beer was found in the vehicle.

Public Safety Messages:

  • In Minnesota Department of Corrections news, the department will begin piloting a secure web-based messaging system for offenders at the Oak Park Heights and Shakopee prisons this week. The pilot program will allow family and friends to send messages to offenders through a secure web site. The system will significantly lower contraband introduced into the facilities and allow for better surveillance and monitoring of offender correspondence, according to the DOC.
  • In Minnesota Department of Public Safety news, for the first time ever, the Emergency Alert System will be tested nationwide. This test will take place at 1 p.m., Wednesday, November 9. Details of the test are still being worked out by the Federal Communications Commission and the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
  • The County Public Health Department and the Sheriff’s Office recently joined Code RED. Code RED is a web based system which will allow the county to reach citizens by phone and text messaging. To sign up for Code Red, click here.

These persons have active outstanding warrants through the Sheriff's Office. Yang has a Washington County Felony warrant for Violation of a Harassment Restraining Order. Yang has been known to the Sheriff’s Department for felony harassment restraining order violations, motor vehicle tax evasion and driving with a suspend license. The preceding items were taken from theStillwater and Oak Park Heights police departments. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation, and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Incidents are listed in the order in which they were reported, not necessarily the order in which they occurred. When names are used, it indicates that felony charges have been filed in Washington County District Court.
