Phippen loses opener, then drops hard-fought consolation match in Class AA state girls tennis singles tournament

Stillwater junior Natalie Phippen lost her first two singles matches in the Class AA girls state tennis tournament Thursday in the University of Minnesota Baseline Tennis Center and was eliminated from the competition.

Rosemount High sophomore Virginia Noder beat Phippen 6-1, 6-2 in the opening round match. Phippen then moved to consolation play where she dropped a hard-fought 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 6-2 decision to Faith lee of Andover.
