Stillwater's Robin Wolpert Hopes You'll Vote in this Year's Judicial Election

Robin Wolpert, President of the Minnesota Bar Association, hopes more voters participate in this year's judicial election.

Most Minnesota voters will enter their polling place this year knowing which presidential candidate they're going to vote for, but what about the race for the state's Supreme Court? In years past, many voters leave that section of their ballot blank. Minnesota is a national leader when it comes to voter turnout, but many citizens don’t cast a vote in judicial elections because they don’t know enough about the candidates and don’t know where to find resources needed to cast an informed vote.

Stillwater resident and President of the Minnesota State Bar Association Robin Wolpert is on a mission to change that.

The Minnesota State Bar Association is the largest professional organization of lawyers in the state, and they've put together an impartial judicial voting guide for this year's state Supreme Court election. The guide includes information on the judicial selection process as well as a questionnaire that was given to both candidates who are running for the Minnesota Supreme Court seat this year — Justice Natalie Hudson and Michelle MacDonald.

As for what to look for when you're researching the candidates, Wolpert told Patch that she evaluates judicial candidates based on their knowledge, experience, fairness, impartiality, and temperament.

Wolpert says Minnesota’s courts standout nationally for having fair, impartial, and qualified judges, and she hopes voters do their part to keep the state's justice system strong.
