The Screen Free Challenge!

The Screen Free Challenge!

One of our keys messages is to make sure your family has two hours or LESS of Screen Time!

Fact: The average school-aged child watches 1,023 hours of TV a year and only spends 900 hours a year in SCHOOL.

On average, your child will spend 7.5 hours a day on a "screen" but less than 25 minutes reading.

We recommend:
Children 2 and younger -watch NO TV and/or use other screens.
Children older than 2- Have less than 2 hours a day of screen time.

Try going SCREEN FREE for a whole week and see how your family becomes more connected by disconnecting the tv cables, cell phones, ipads and more.

Try going for family outings to the park, YMCA, ball park, on a hike or scavenger hunt.

Here are some more fun ideas to Power Down Screen Time and PowerUp Play Time:

-Block out times for NO screens, ex: at meals, one hour before bed, until the chores are done, or until homework is finished.

-Set "screen timers," set a limit and a timer as a reminder for your kids to log off their screens once time is up!

- Create "screen-free zones," especially in bedrooms, suggest a book instead!
