Tips for Back to School Success

It's that time of year again! Kids are heading back to school!

New routines, new schools, new teachers... Here are a few tips to help you and your kids get back in the groove.

1.    Re-establish a “normal” sleep schedule. We all know that sleep schedules get a little off track during the summer months. Help your kids get back on track by setting the alarm clock 15 minutes earlier each day until it is back to the school wake up time.

2.    Take a tour of your school. For kids who are anxious about going to school, schedule a tour prior to the first day. Make sure the tour is separate from other open houses, which can be crowded, busy and loud. By taking a separate tour your child can more freely explore the school and ask questions.

3.    Pick up needed school supplies. If you or someone you know needs help with school supplies, call United Way 2-1-1 for a list of programs that provide school supplies to families in need.

Youth Service Bureau is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that helps youth and families learn the skills they need to be more successful at home, in school and throughout the community.
