Washington County Is Still In A Drought
Even after significant rain in August and September, more than 90 percent of Minnesota is still in some sort of drought.
WASHINGTON COUNTY, MN — Rain in August and September significantly reduced the risk of fire danger and the severity of the drought across the Twin Cities metro. However, much of the region remains in a "moderate drought," including Washington County, according to Thursday's update from the federal drought monitory.
More than 90 percent of Minnesota is still in some sort of drought. About a quarter of the state — primarily in northern Minnesota — remains in an "extreme" drought.
The prolonged drought will have a significant impact on the state's crop yield this year. Twenty-six percent of corn crops are in "poor" or "very poor" conditions, according to the United States Department of Agriculture.
