1-Year-Old Minnesota Boy Dies After Mother's Day Crash

The 1-year-old boy died in his mother's arms early Monday morning, according to a GoFundMe page established for his family.

STERNS COUNTY, MN — A one-year-old boy is dead following a crash in rural Minnesota on Mother's Day. The fatal crash occurred in Wakefield Township at 2:32 p.m. Sunday. Everyone involved in the crash was wearing a seat belt, according to authorities. Road conditions were reportedly dry.

A 2016 Volvo Tractor Truck, a semi, was traveling east on Highway 23. A 2016 Dodge Caravan was north on County Road 71, crossing Highway 23, when it was struck by the Volvo in the intersection, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Colton Joseph Walz, 1, of Cold Spring, Minnesota suffered injury and was hospitalized at North Memoria. Colton died in his mother's arms early Monday morning, according to a GoFundMe page established for his family.

Driver Joseph Gregory Walz, 23, suffered a non-life threatening injury and was taken to St. Cloud Hospital. Callie Lucinda Walz, 3, did not suffer a reported injury.

Driver Jeffrey Mark Ditlefsen, 61, of Sartell, Minnesota was not injured in the crash.
