WASHINGTON, D.C. — Minnesota's Third District Rep. Erik Paulsen said he had a "great meeting" with American actress Marisol Nichols on Capitol Hill Tuesday "catching up" on mutual efforts to end human trafficking. Nichols previously met with Paulsen to discuss the same subject in 2015.

In 2015, Paulsen introduced legislation to combat sex trafficking by encouraging states to expand "safe harbor" laws. The bill, H.R. 159, the Stop Exploitation Through Trafficking Act, would encourage states to adopt legislation that treats children involved in trafficking as victims, not criminals.

Paulsen's office said by not pursuing prosecution for minors, law enforcement and protective services are better able to provide resources to victims and bring traffickers to justice.
