ST. LOUIS PARK, MN — A Brooklyn Park man is accused of sexually assaulting a woman inside her bedroom at a St. Louis Park group home after the two met on Facebook, according to a criminal complaint filed in Hennepin County District Court.
Kareem Chauncy Haleem, 38, is charged with felony fifth-degree criminal sexual conduct involving nonconsensual penetration.
The assault happened May 6 at a group home on the 9000 block of 34th Street West in St. Louis Park, according to the complaint.
The woman told police she met Haleem on Facebook and had met him once before, according to charges. She told investigators they had never been sexually involved and that she thought they were going to hang out and have dinner together, the complaint states.
When Haleem came into her room, he immediately removed his clothing and said they were going to have sex, according to the complaint.
The woman told police she said no, but Haleem pushed her onto the bed and began removing her clothing, prosecutors said.
During the assault, the woman screamed, and Haleem punched her in the cheek and told her to "be quiet," according to the complaint.
Officers who responded said the woman appeared to be in pain and had a visible mark on her cheek, the complaint states.
The woman later underwent a sexual assault nurse examiner exam, according to charges. During the exam, she reported a headache, rectal pain and pelvic pain, the complaint states.
The exam also found a contusion on her cheek, smaller contusions and abrasions on her arms, legs and torso, and a tear on her vaginal wall, according to the complaint.
Swabs from the exam will be submitted to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension for testing, and DNA results are pending, prosecutors said.
Haleem was in custody when the complaint was filed. Bail was set at $10,000, with conditions including no contact with the woman, no possession of weapons, making all court appearances, and remaining law-abiding.
