At the Aug. 19, 2019 city council meeting, the 2019 Westwood Hills Nature Center junior naturalists received recognition for their volunteer efforts. In 2019, there were 63 youth volunteers in the junior naturalist program who volunteered over 1,600 hours assisting with tasks such as animal care, program and camp aide, wild hikes, behind the scenes projects and the water garden maintenance and monitoring. A number of these volunteers have been involved in the program for several years.

Junior naturalists are students entering 7th grade through those just completing their senior year of high school. They are interested in serving their community while gaining knowledge and experience in the outdoors.

Know someone interested in becoming a junior naturalist in 2020?

Applications for the 2020 program will be available in spring 2020. Visit the Westwood Hills Nature Center volunteer webpage for more information and to check back for applications next spring!
