Council Notes: Nature Center Getting a Climbing Wall

A donation from local Rotary groups is paying for the rock wall.

Editor's Note: The following is a brief recap of the City Council meeting held Monday, March 21:

Outdoor enthusiasts already do plenty of hiking at the , but soon a new activity will be available — climbing.

With the help of a $15,000 donation from local Rotary clubs, the St. Louis Park nature center will be getting a new rock wall, which is expected to be ready for use in May.

The donation from the Sunrise Rotary Club, the Noon Rotary Club and the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International was presented to City Council Monday night and is expected to cover nearly all of the project’s costs. The city is slated to chip in roughly $1,000 to get the site ready for construction.

“I’m deeply touched by all the work they do for this community,” councilman Phil Finkelstein said of the Rotary members.

The new rock wall will go up near the playground at the nature center.

Girl Scouts Make Presentations to Council

The St. Louis Park Girl Scouts Brownie Troop 13193 was quite busy Monday night.

First, the third graders presented the nation’s colors and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Next, they gave a presentation on water preservation in conjunction with the troop’s Take Action Project.

As part of the presentation, the girl scouts asked council members to sign a “water saver” pledge. To sign your own pledge, and to learn more about troop 13193’s project, head to the .
