The Fire In St. Louis Park? It Was Prescribed

Did you see smoke and fire in St. Louis Park earlier this week?

ST. LOUIS PARK, MN — Did you see smoke and fire in St. Louis Park earlier this week? Prescribed burns were conducted by Prairie Restorations Thursday near the Municipal Service Center and Twin Lakes. City officials say prescribed burns are a necessary management tool for the native plantings found at these sites and should occur in early spring for optimum results.

The burn eradicates weeds and releases the desired native plants, promoting and enhancing their growth, according to a news release.

Burns also promote native wildlife habitat, stimulating native grass growth used for nesting and hiding by a variety of animals.
