KARE 11 Announces New Anchor Assignments

Another lineup shift is in the works at NBC's Twin Cities affiliate station. Veteran anchor Tim McNiff is leaving the KARE 11 morning show.

McNiff is the second person to leave "Sunrise" in recent months. In October, KARE announced it had "parted ways" with morning anchor Kim Insley after 24 years.

Unlike Insley, McNiff will remain on KARE's staff. He will be launching "a multi-platform news and sports digital series," the TV station said.

The series will focus on "in-depth commentary and insider interviews," pulling on McNiff’s sports and news background.

"I’m being given an opportunity to return to my roots and talk about things that interest me, and what I hope people in the community will find interesting," McNiff said in a statement. "And I'm looking forward to doing this in a new way and to reach a new audience."

"Innovation is a constant in this business and the need to continuously create new content on all of our platforms is key to what we do," John Remes, KARE 11 General Manager, said in a statement. "Tim will be creating something we don’t have at KARE 11, or in the market."

Replacing McNiff on the KARE 11 Morning Show is Kris Laudien, former anchor at Global News Canada. Laudien will be anchoring KARE 11 Sunrise, alongside Sven Sundgaard and Alicia Lewis.

Laudien’s first day will be March 5.
