ST. LOUIS PARK, MN — A rally with Democratic presidential candidate Amy Klobuchar was canceled Sunday night after protesters swarmed the stage in St. Louis Park High School. The activists demanded that Myon Burrell, a man sentenced in the 2002 murder of an 11-year-old girl, be released.

The demonstrators say Burell was wrongfully convicted. They chanted "Black Lives Matter" and "Free Myron" at the event Sunday night, according to FOX 9.

Klobuchar was the Hennepin County Attorney when Burrell was convicted. Activists want her to drop out of the presidential race over the life prison sentence Burrell is now serving.

"Contrary to some reports, this was solid police investigation and prosecution. We believe the right man was convicted in this heinous crime."

Freeman said if new evidence in the case comes up, his office will review it.
