Mother Of 7 Killed Riding ATV In Central Minnesota, Driver Jailed

The driver was jailed pending charges for criminal vehicular operation, police said.

MORRISON COUNTY, MN — One man is jailed and a mother of seven children is dead after an ATV crash in central Minnesota Saturday. On Oct. 6 just after 8 p.m., the Morrison County Sheriff's Office received a report of an ATV crash on the Soo-Line Trail near 280th Avenue in Pierz Township.

The ATV — driven by 45-year-old Eric Scholl, of Royalton — rolled after crossing the intersection at 280th Avenue, police said.

Passenger Karla Scheel, 37, of Rice was ejected and trapped underneath the ATV. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Scholl is being held in the Morrison County Jail pending charges for criminal vehicular operation, authorities said Monday. He was suspected of being drunk during the crash, reports the Star Tribune.

Mother leaves behind husband, seven children

"Karla was an amazing woman, raising her children, running the family household, helping run the family farm, and assisting with Tony's trucking business," reads a GoFundMe page established for the Scheel family.

"She was nothing short of amazing, always putting others before herself. She was an extraordinary cook and baker and provided a helping hand to anyone in need. She also volunteered at the family church and taught first communion classes."

A visitation will be held for Scheel Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Pierz. The funeral will be held at the church Friday at 11 a.m.
