Roller Garden In St. Louis Park To Close After 5 Decades

The owners of the Roller Garden encouraged customers to "keep rolling" at the other Twin Cities metro-area roller rinks.

ST. LOUIS PARK, MN — The Roller Garden in St. Louis Park will close after more than five decades. The local mecca of roller skating will close its doors for the last time on May 8.

Plans for a "week of goodbyes" are in the works for the final days before the rink shuts down for good.

The rink operators cited several reasons for the closure, including the coronavirus-related shutdowns and retirement decisions.

"This was an incredibly difficult decision which was not taken lightly," reads a message on the rink's website.

"There were many contributing factors over the years, including the owners desire to retire, that led us in this direction, and then covid hit, which literally pushed us over the edge. The challenges of this past year made us realize how short life is, and the amount of time we've missed with our own families in order to run this business. We would've loved to see this historical facility remain a roller rink but we're happy to at least know it's not being torn down and will be run by another family owned business."
