City officials are looking ahead after a longtime public servant announced his retirement earlier this year.
After St. Louis Park Police Chief John Luse announced he would be retiring effective December 31, 2016, the city of St. Louis Park issued a request for proposal for an executive search firm to assist with hiring a new police chief.
The city has since retained the executive search firm of Waters and Company, based in St. Paul.

The search firm will be developing a position profile with input from St. Louis Park Police Department staff and other internal city staff, as well as from external stakeholders. The position profile will be used to recruit and evaluate applicants for the position of police chief, according to a news release.
Advertising for the police chief position is expected to start in late October, with interviews in late November or early December. While an exact process hasn’t been determined, it’s expected the public will have the opportunity to meet final candidates.
