St. Louis Park Student Wins Rose Reese Peace Award

The award honors high school seniors who have demonstrated a commitment to service, advocacy, community, and peace.

This year, St. Louis Park resident Grace Pelowitz received the Rose Reese Peace Award from the National Council of Jewish Women. Former Vice President Walter Mondale was in attendance and gave the keynote address at Beth El synagogue in St. Louis Park.

The Sun Sailor reports that Pelowitz and 20 other high school seniors from neighboring schools received the award.

The award, which honors seniors who have demonstrated a commitment to service, advocacy, community and peace, is named after Rose Rees, who served as president of the National Council of Jewish Women’s Minneapolis Section. Rees was also a founder of the World Affairs Council of Minneapolis.

Pelowitz has served her community by promoting Youth C.A.N., a program that researched local businesses and produced a map of "teen friendly" businesses. She also founded Spark My Own Brilliance, an after-school program for students in grades 8-12 sponsored by the Hennepin County Library System and Faith Community Partnership.
