Traffic Alert: Highway 169 Project to Begin (Again) Monday

After several project delays, the Nine Mile Creek Bridge on Highway 169 will close in both directions starting Monday.

After several project delays, the Minnesota Department of Transportation announced that the Nine Mile Creek Bridge on Highway 169 between Bren Rd. in Minnetonka and 7th St. (5th St. – Lincoln Dr. exit) in Edina will close in both directions by 2 a.m. Mon, Jan. 23. The northbound and southbound ramps going toward the bridge will also close.

Southbound Hwy 169 from Excelsior Blvd. to 7th St. and northbound Hwy 169 from Hwy 62 to Bren Rd. will be reduced to one lane, according to a news release. The exit ramp from westbound I-394 to southbound Hwy 169 will be closed during the project to encourage non-local southbound traffic to take the detour routes and for safety reasons.

Motorists are advised to follow the detours to bypass the closure:

  • Northbound detour: EB Hwy 62, NB Hwy 100, WB I-394 to Hwy 169
  • Southbound detour: WB I-394, SB I-494 to Hwy 169

The bridge closure and lane reductions are necessary as crews remove the Nine Mile Creek Bridge, which is being replaced. The bridge will take a month to remove and construction of a causeway is expected to last through October, weather permitting.
