Why is Gregg Running for City Council?

With eight days before the election, I want to spend some time highlighting some of the questions you have asked throughout the past few months as well as some of the things that I think are important as voters choose their next Ward 3 City Council representative.

Ward 3 neighbors have a unique opportunity on November 5th.  It has been eight years since we have had a choice in candidates on the ballot.   I hope that you join me in my desire to bring new energy and a fresh perspective to the Council.  I look forward to serving the community that has served me for a lifetime as your next Councilmember.

So, today’s question – Why are you running for City Council?

The answer is fairly simple. St Louis Park has been my lifelong home, and it is where we plan to stay.  My wife Amy and I chose to buy and fix up a modest Texa-Tonka rambler – and now with our daughter Haley, the Park will be home to the next generation of our family.

My run for City Council is about my love for St Louis Park – our neighborhoods, diversity, innovative spirit and care for youth.  I believe that as a community we are better together, and as a Councilmember, I plan to listen to your needs and the needs of our neighbors, and act on those issues that are important to you – letting our community take the lead in shaping the decisions that affect us all.

I look forward to bringing new ideas, new energy, and creative leadership to the Council.  It is with this fresh perspective that I believe I can best represent the diverse interests of our neighborhoods.

I bring valuable experience, and I am ready to work for you and our neighbors in Ward 3.  As an active community leader, I have worked to organize and support neighborhoods, served as Chair of the Community Education Advisory Council, the Parktacular Board of Directors, and the Community Recreation Task Force.

Educated in Public Administration, I understand the policy issues facing our City.  As a public employee myself, I also understand the challenges of providing superior public service.  I look forward to putting my experience to work.

The bottom line is I care about St Louis Park and I care about working hard for you.  The issues that are important to you are those very issues that are important to me.  My run for local office has nothing to do with politics. In fact, I believe that is the way local government policies are best formed - as such, I have no aspirations for higher office.
