Two special elections will be held to fill the vacant State House of Representatives seat for District 30A in Sherburne and Wright counties.

Notice Given for Two Special Elections for District 30A House Seat

Notice was given Friday that two special elections will be held to fill the vacant State House of Representatives seat for District 30A in Sherburne and Wright counties. The majority of District 30A is located in Sherburne County. The only portion of Wright County that is in District 30A is Precinct 3 in the City of Otsego.

A special primary election will be held Tuesday, Jan. 14. Three candidates will appear on the ballot, two Republican candidates – Kathy Ziebarth and Paul Novotny – and one Democrat – Chad Hobot. Because there is more than one Republican candidate on the ballot, a primary election was needed. The polling place in Otsego is at the Otsego Elementary School (8125 River Road NE). The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Notice was also given that the special election will be held Tuesday, Feb. 4, as the top vote-getter between Ziebarth and Novotny will go up against Hobot to determine who fills the District 30A seat. As with the special primary election, the polling place with be Otsego Elementary School and the polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The special election is the result of the resignation of Rep. Nick Zerwas (R-Elk River), who announced his resignation in November, citing health reasons. Zerwas represented District 30A for 13 years.
