Albertville Store Front Keeps St. Michael/Albertville Clothed in School Spirit Apparel

Albertville resident, Jan Capps, is a pro when it comes to apparel in St. Michael/Albertville.

"I'm pretty sure we're only tapping about 25 percent of the St. Michael-Albertville population," owner Jan Capps said. "It's amazing how many people come in and say, I didn't even know you were in here with inventory."

The Logo Stop store front is on 61st Street in Albertville located in the strip mall between and .

Capps is not an newcomer to the apparel and spirit wear business. She's been at it since 1993 when she originally started working for Specialty Fashions, formerly in Colonial Mall.

She started her own business, Northern Exposure Apparel and Design, in 1996 and has been doing it since, with little breaks in between. Inspired to run a small business because of her grandparents and her father's history in running small businesses in small communities, Capps feels fortunate to have the business she does.

As a former St. Michael-Albertville Community Education instructor and parent, she's definitely connected. She currently works with Rogers, Elk River, Monticello and some St. Michael-Albertville sports and groups, in addition to local businesses like .

The store offers all sorts of apparel options with a variety of designs and unique to The Logo Stop is that even if your design or size or preference is there, they can get it for you. "We do a lot of custom orders and design," Capps said.

"I've had such great community support. I'm just blessed to have the business I do in STMA," Capps said. "I hope to continue to grow my business in the community and be able to continue to support different groups and activities."

Challenges for Capps aren't unlike other businesses, inventory and the economy play a huge role. "Sports apparel isn't a necessity, so the retail aspect of the business slows down at certain times," Capps said. "And inventory is the hardest to manage. No one wants to order something that doesn't sell and sit on that."

To help offset that, The Logo Stop holds an annual sample sale.

"This year's sale was just insane," Capps said.

Homecoming and Christmas time are two other times of the year, Capps finds just insane. "I had people in here the Thursday before homecoming digging and having me do shirts for the next day."

While Capps shop has a lot of favorites including the titanium necklaces all the boys are asking about, her best seller is the 10-inch STMA duffle bag.

"This is by far the biggest requested item!" Capps said.

In addition to sports and business apparel, Capps offers design services and products for family events or reunions, whether that's apparel or mugs, pens and rubber bracelets.
