An Open Look at One of St. Michael's Most Unique Businesses

Hillside Hope Through Hooves does amazing work with people and animals. Come on out Friday, May 20 and see for yourself.

One of St. Michael's most unique and, perhaps, life-altering service organizations will open its doors Friday, May 20, to the public.

Normally reserved for groups or individuals seeking its unique style of therapy and alternative learning, the farm, which is located just west of Fox Hollow Golf Course on the north side of Interstate 94, will have special sessions at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

For more information on Friday's event, contact Terry at 612-840-5366.

Hillside Hope Thru Hooves brings the art of equine therapy to a new, ground level.

Normally, when one thinks of a horse as a therapy "tool," the thought goes to riding.

At Hillside, there is a ground-level interaction with the beautiful, yet sometimes intimidating animal. After all, horses are bigger than humans, have more power, and well, more legs.

"It's a comfort level that people have to find on their own, and that's part of the process," Terry said.

Terry serves as the director of the organization, which was founded by Todd and Angle Batemen, a pair of equines specialists.

The four horses often used range in size from a thoroughbred to a pony, and have different personalities.

As do the people who have used Hillside Hope Thru Hooves over the last couple of years.

If you can't make Friday's open events, don't worry. There are several classes planned for the summer. Check out the organization's website for more, or e-mail them at info@hillsidehopethruhooves.com
