Lose 7lbs in 7 Weeks- beat the holiday bloat - WEEK 2

WEEK 2 TIP of the Holiday Weight Loss Challenge. Together, let's be among those that shed pounds (or maintain if you're at a healthy weight) this season!!!

We have about 6 more weeks until we celebrate another new year. A new, squeaky-clean year to become the best you YOU can be!

The average American gains 7lbs between October and January (think Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years events... and food).

This year, let's do things differently. Instead of gaining 7lbs this season, lets lose 7lbs together!! (Or maintain if you’re at a healthy weight already).

Each week, I will post a couple tips to keep you (or get you) in the best shape of your life- during several of the big holidays!! I would love for us to make this a dialogue. Submit your reply and let me know what works for you, what doesn't, what your goals are... etc. Your inspirational ideas and stories may also inspire the other Patch readers to make healthy changes this season! This is week 2 for those of you that missed last week’s tip (be sure to check it out on the Patch Blog Site!!).

Statistics show that if we can be in a fitness journey together, we are more likely to achieve our goals and beyond!

Below are my second healthy tips; remember, you can do it!!

To Slim Down, Bulk Up Your Kitchen

Having the right foods on hand can keep you eating right. As soon as you get home from the grocery store, wash as many fruits and vegetables as you can and put them in convenient, measured portions- ready to eat whenever you want a snack. Also, frozen vegetables you can steam in the bag for quick side-dishes; healthy single-entrees like Kashi frozen dinners for when you get home late and need a no-fuss dinner; a decadent treat, like Breyers low fat ice cream (it’s made from real ingredients, but contains half the fat of regular ice cream) make for quick, healthier meals. Remember: Never eat from the carton or container. Always serve yourself a portion before you take a bite.

Pay Attention to Plate Proportions

Take a look at your plate before you dive into your meal: it should hold not just the right foods but the right amount of them. Make sure your plate reflects your new way of eating, with 50% containing vegetables and fruit (preferably mostly veggies), 25% covered with a whole grain (preferably a sprouted grain) and 25% filled by a lean protein. Sprinkle in some good-for-you plant-based fat (cold pressed olive oil is a great choice), and you’ve got a healthy meal!
