This year, let's do things differently. Instead of gaining 7lbs this season, lets lose 7lbs together!! (Or maintain if you’re at a healthy weight already).

Each week, I have posted a couple tips to keep you (or get you) in the best shape of your life- during several of the big holidays!! I would love for us to make this a dialogue. Submit your reply and let me know what works for you, what doesn't, what your goals are... etc. Your inspirational ideas and stories may also inspire the other Patch readers to make healthy changes this season! This is the final week for those of you that missed the last several weeks tips (be sure to check it out on the Patch Blog Site!!).

Statistics show that if we can be in a fitness journey together, we are more likely to achieve our goals and beyond!

Below are my last week’s healthy tips for this series; remember, you can do it!!

Protein- The Secret Weapon

In an effort to trim calories, people sometimes cut back on protein. This is detrimental to any weight loss journey! Studies show that getting enough protein actually helps you eat less during the day—without even thinking about it. That may be because protein keeps you feeling fuller longer. Your body also uses more calories to metabolize high-protein foods, so it’s a double win! A few great protein options include white-meat chicken or turkey or lean beef—or snack on almond butter, raw nuts or a hard-boiled egg.

Fix Up Your Favorite Recipes

Add high-fiber or water-rich vegetables to your favorite recipes—you’ll feel full faster and end up consuming fewer calories, according to research done by scientist Barbara Rolls. She’s found that a person tends to eat the same amount of food each day, even if that amount contains fewer calories than normal. That explains why a high-fat lunch doesn’t necessarily prevent you from eating a hearty dinner—but it also means that you can feel perfectly satisfied after a veggie-heavy, calorie-light meal. You’ll feel even more satisfied when you’re able to tighten your belt an extra notch.
