STMA Women's Lacrosse add 3 wins to their season

STMA Women's Lacrosse results from last weeks' Buffalo game and Saturday games in Grand Rapids.

The STMA Women's Varsity Lacrosse team improved their record to 3-2 with wins over Buffalo, Grand Rapids, and Monticello.

STMA traveled to Buffalo on Thursday in hopes of winning their first game to Buffalo since starting as a club team in 2010. At the half, STMA had a commanding lead of 10-2. The Knights went on to win the game with a score of 14-6. Rachel Bourget and Annd Marie Harald each scored 3 goals, followed by Shaye Maetzold with 2. Carly Walters was a defensive wall in the goal, saving 16 shots on goal.

On Saturday, the Knights lacrosse team traveled up to Grand Rapids, to participate in the Grand Rapids Shootout. Although the weather was less than ideal, the girls persevered through the numb fingers and toes to win 20-6 over Grand Rapids. Amanda Dorholt led the scoring for the Knights with 4 goals, followed by Makenzie Bebo and Rachel Bourget with 3 each. Halie Gudmonson, AnneMarie Harald, and Nikki Barthel also contributed 2 goals each for the Knights.

Following the Varsity Grand Rapids game, the JV squad faced Grand Rapids and Monticello, winning both games. The Varsity team were excited to play Monticello, despite the cold weather. They wanted to win this one badly as they lost to Monticello in the semi-finals of the NSLA State Tournament last spring. STMA struggled a bit defensively throughout the game, but were able to out shoot Monticello to win 19-14. Scoring for the Knights were Anna Churchill with 4 goals, Rachel Bourget and Shaye Maetzold with 3 goals each, and Makenzie Bebo and Halie Gudmonson each with 2 goals.

The Knights will travel to St. Cloud on Tuesday in hopes of defending their season opening loss to St. Cloud Area. JV will play at 5:00 followed by Varsity at 6:30 at SCSU.
