The other day I spoke with our neighbor who was leaving for an out of town funeral. “Whose funeral will you be attending?”
“My cousin’s husband, who was one of the Navy SEALS killed in Afghanistan.”
After a stunned silence I expressed my sympathies to her.

She replied, “I’m not worried for his wife and their two children. They are surrounded by so much love and care. It will be hard though.”
Even though it sounded very hard and challenging I sensed that this Navy SEAL widow will be protected or surrounded by love.

Who or what protects you? Who surrounds you with love these days? Do you sense that you are protected by the love of Jesus Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit? Do you believe that no matter what life can throw your way that the Lord our God will protect you?
When it comes to worldly protection plans we have insurance coverage–insurance for cars, home, health, and life. When it comes to storms we have the shelter
of our homes. When it comes to raising children, parents are called to protect their children from harm.
“Remember, you are sealed with the Holy Spirit and marked with the cross of Christ forever.” These are spoken when people are baptized at Alleluia. The good news is that there is protection by the love of Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit.
My prayer is that you will live courageously knowing you are protected by God through Jesus and his presence and power in the Holy Spirit.
