UPDATED: Matt Spaeth Returns to Pittsburgh Steelers

Update (4:30 p.m. Monday): Matt Spaeth confirmed the news on his Facebook page: "It's official. I'm back where it all started."

Original post (10 a.m. Monday): St. Michael-Albertville High School grad Matt Spaeth is back in the fold of the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to ESPN.com.

That news comes after the Chicago Bears released Spaeth last Wednesday.

ESPN.com reported:

Tight end Matt Spaeth is returning to the Pittsburgh Steelers after agreeing to terms with his original club on Friday, according to a league source. ... Spaeth spent the first four years of his NFL career with the Steelers, helping Pittsburgh reach two Super Bowls and win one.

The 6-foot-7 tight end signed with the Bears as a free agent in 2011 and played well in his two years in Chicago. But the Bears cut ties with Spaeth earlier in the week instead of paying him a $500,000 roster bonus.
