Filing Period For Wright County Offices Closed

The filing period for county offices in the Wright County 2020 elections closed at 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 2. Seven offices were up for election, but only three will be contested – all county commissioner seats with two of those requiring primary elections to narrow the field of candidates.

In District 5, where County Commissioner Charlie Borrell announced last year he wouldn’t seek another term, four candidates will compete for the vacant seat – Daniel Bravinder (Cokato), Jason Franzen (Delano), Mike Kaczmarek (Montrose) and Dan Vick (Howard Lake).

Three candidates will vie for the District 4 seat – incumbent Michael Potter (Albertville), Mary Wetter (Buffalo) and Scott Yelle (Rockford).

Two candidates are set for the District 2 seat – incumbent Darek Vetsch (Monticello) and Tom Perrault (Monticello).

For Vetsch and Perrault, they will be on the Nov. 3 general ballot. The other seven candidates are required square off in the Aug. 11 primary election – necessary when there are more than two candidates running for an office. The respective fields of four and three will be pared down to the top two vote-getters in the primary to move on to the general election.

The filing period also ended for Wright Soil & Water Supervisors. Four spots were open and only one candidate filed for each – Michael Zieska (Maple Lake) in the special election in District 1, Jeffrey Burns (Monticello) in District 2, Chris Uecker (Annandale) in District 3 and Duane Dahlman (Cokato) in District 5.
