GALLERY: Timberwolves Clinic Held for Girls Basketball at St. Michael-Albertville Schools

Drills from the National Basketball Association hit St. Michael-Albertville High School Friday at a Timberwolves clinic for girls basketball players.

More than 60 girls basketball players, grades three through eight, from St. Michael-Albertville Schools, honed skills as they learned about positioning, dribbling, passing, and shooting.

Minnesota Timberwolves & Lynx Basketball Academy Manager Steve Brown coached the girls at the St. Michael-Albertville High School activities center.

"This hopefully shows them things they can take home that'll help them with their basketball performance as we move forward," Brown told St. Michael Patch at the school before starting the clinic. "We'll show them drills that we do in the NBA and WNBA, and at this age, they should do two things: learn a few things, and have some fun."

Brown runs basketball clinics in the five-state area, and said it was his third clinic at STMA in the past four years — which is significant.

Kent Hamre, STMA head girls basketball coach, invited Brown to the district.

"It really shows the commitment the coach has to the STMA basketball program," Brown said. "Not everyone does this. We hope people in the community realize it's a big thing — and it helps the kids become better."

The clinic was part of the district's youth basketball night, Hamre said.

"It's giving back to the kids a little bit," he said.
