Grab & Go Kids Planner: Wrestling Action, Basketball and Ham 'n Eggs

The new Wednesday feature providing tips about when to grab the kids and where to go!

St. Michael Patch has assembled a weekly calendar of kid-friendly activities both locally and within sturdy stone’s throw. Look for the Grab & Go each Wednesday, and help us build the planner with your own suggestions and tips - just add them to the comment box. Patch wants to hear from you!

Family best bets of the week this week include breakfast, sports and animals.

HAM & EGGS BREAKFAST

Where/When: At the Albertville City Hall on Sunday, Feb. 20 from 8 a.m. to noon

Why Go: Take the morning off from cooking and enjoy a hot breakfast while supporting the Albertville Lions and their community projects.

Price: Free will offering

ICE BREAKER TRIATHLON

Where/When: Monticello Community Center on Sunday, Feb. 20 from 7 to 9 a.m.

Why Go: Ages 10+ participate in a fun inaugural competition including a 20 minute swim, 15 minute run and 10 minutes on the climbing wall.

Price: $45 for MCC Members, $55 for non-members; fee includes a t-shirt

MINNESOTA’S ANIMAL TRACKS

Where/When: Monticello Public Library on Thursday, Feb. 17 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Why Go: Children aged 3-12 years will have a blast learning all about the different animal tracks through storytelling and a variety of other crafty activities.

Price: Free but please register by calling the library

STMA VARSITY BASKETBALL

Where/When: St. Michael-Albertville High School on Thursday, Feb. 17 at 7:30 p.m. the STMA Girls play host to Cambridge-Isanti, and Tuesday, Feb. 22 at 7:30 p.m. the STMA Boys will welcome Buffalo.

Why Go: As high school basketball makes its way to postseason play, give your young athletes at home another opportunity to see the big kids play ball.

Section 7-3A Wrestling Tournament

Where/When: The Knights will take their chances in the toughest section in Class AAA when they travel to Blaine Friday, Feb. 18. Quarterfinal action begins on four mats at 4 p.m., with the semis at 6 p.m. and the finals at 8 p.m. Friday night.

Why Go: The Knights are looking to return to state, where they earned second place as a team last season, coming in behind Apple Valley. They are the top seed again in this year’s section tournament, but Cambridge-Isanti, Forest Lake and Coon Rapids are also ranked in the state and could knock off the Knights with a big effort.
