Heart-shaped Pizzas are Still a Smash at Papa Murphy's

Sure, they're cheesy in more ways than one. But those $6 pies continue to fly out the door.

It's not unusual to bump into a line at Papa Murphy's, especially on a Monday night.

But at 3 p.m.?

"It's been crazy," said Stacey Harey, the smiling face at the front counter.

The store doesn't open until mid-morning on Monday. But by 3 p.m., more than 100 heart-shaped pepperoni pizzas had been taken home by happy Valentine's Day customers.

"And that doesn't include the ones we've made to order, like cheese or sausage," Harey said.

No wonder Valentine's Day is one of Papa Murphy's busiest of the year.

"It's right there with Halloween, when we do the pumpkin-shaped pizza," said Kelly Quie, manager of the Albertville store. "I've been doing this for six years and it's been busy every time."

It's a kid favorite, the ladies said.

"I think parents get them because the kids like them, and it's an easy thing to leave if they are headed out someplace nice to eat," Quie said.

As she turned out another pie, she brushed cheese from her hands.

"I think we've gotten a lot of customers in early today. At least I hope. We'll see at 5 p.m. what it's like," Quie said.

Cheesy or not, it's a promotion that works.

"For $6, it is a pretty good deal," Harey said.
