The walk-up window was installed this week and will allow residents to have several services processed, including vehicle registration, title transfers, duplicate licenses and handicap certificates.

License Bureau Supervisor Becky Aanerud said that opening of the walk-up window is a welcome change to help give residents the service they have come to expect.

“This is a big change for our office – another in a series of changes we have had to adapt to with COVID-19,” Aanerud said. “The window will allow us to provide all the services that we provided before COVID hit.”

New driver’s licenses will continue to be scheduled by appointment and Aanerud added that the drop boxes at the north entrance to the Government Center and the drive-up drop box on the east side of the Government Center will continue to be part of the License Bureau’s operation moving forward because there remain some who wish to limit face-to-face contact while cases of COVID-19 continue to rise.

“We’re still going to be using our drop boxes and mailing out tabs and title changes,” Aanerud said. “People who don’t want to stand in line or use the drop boxes after business hours, we will still keep that option open to them and check them every couple of hours to mail them out the same day we receive them.”

The walk-up window has been a goal of Aanerud’s for some time, which makes its installation a welcome addition to her office.

“I’ve been talking about having a walk-up window since I started here 35 years ago,” Aanerud said. “It was 35 years in the making, but we got it in.”

The walk-up window will share the same open hours as the License Bureau – 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
