On-Line Permit-To-Carry Firearms Safety Training In Wright County

"If you choose to take an on-line course your application may be held for 30 days."

April 22, 2020

"The Wright County Sheriff’s Office has seen an increase in the number of permit-to-carry applications in which the applicant took their required training and safety course on-line. While we understand the current restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Wright County Sheriff’s Office would caution against utilizing an on-line training and safety course for your permit-to-carry application. Many do not cover the required content under the law and do not successfully complete the actual shooting qualification exercise. If you choose to take an on-line course your application may be held for 30 days while our Office or the BCA investigate the validity of the course and instructor who issued the certificate. Within the 30-day period, your application may be denied if you failed to qualify under the criteria described in MN Statute 624.714.

As the law-abiding permit to carry holders in Wright County already know, I strongly support you and will stand with you to protect our 2nd Amendment rights. Some people/organizations that are offering these “on-line” classes are most likely doing so in violation of State Law. I believe that these organizations/instructors could diminish the strong reputation of the permit to carry program that we have built in Wright County. I would encourage anyone seeking to take a permit to carry/protection class, research the organization/instructor and make sure that they are offering everything required to fulfill the requirements. I will not support an organization that would profit from bringing negative attention to our program or our Constitutional Rights as American citizens."

Take care and stay healthy,
