Parent Talk: It's Preschool Registration Time in St. Michael-Albertville

It's preschool registration time around the community, and there is a wide array of options for St. Michael-Albertville families.

September may seem a long way down the road, but for preschool parents the time is now to make the decision: if and where their little one is going to preschool next year.

Opinions differ across the board on the preschool question. Some feel their kids would be at a disadvantage for not attending preschool, and that it fully prepares them for kindergarten. Others say that it would have been an unnecessary expense and possibly traumatic seperation.

Not only is preschool expensive, but even the registration fees can add up when you're dealing with a lottery system at registration time. Most of the local preschools do registration either via first come–first serve, or a lottery drawing. That means you're not guaranteed your spot OR the times you want.

The options in the St. Michael-Albertville community range from , faith based programs, a new and even daycare programs that provide preschool curriculum.

The reasons families choose certain preschools depends upon each family. Some are looking for faith-based curriculum, others are looking for the best schedule, the most affordable and still some say it's all about tradition of sending all their kids to the same place.

So how does one go about making their decision and gathering information for the different schools?

  • Decide on a budget of what you can spend on preschool.
  • Go in for a tour and meet the teachers. Do you like the feel of the classroom and the teachers?
  • Ask questions and make sure you're comfortable. The more comfortable you are, the more comfortable your child will feel going there.
  • Realize all the preschool programs are going to cover mostly the same thing. Numbers, letters, colors, playtime, stories and most of all, fun. It's hard to go wrong with preschool.

St. Michael Patch, with this article, has included a table with information on local preschools that participated in last week's Preschool Information Fair, sponsored by the St. Michael-Albertville MOMS Club. Contact each school for more registration information for your toddler.
