Potter Defeats Wetter in Hotly Contested Wright County Commissioner Race

Mike Potter of Albertville won the Wright County District 4 commissioner seat by a close margin, in what was by far the most hotly contested race for the county commission.

Potter, a one-time city leader, received a little over 52 percent of the votes, and challenger Mary Wetter of Buffalo received 47 percent. Potter took 5,083 votes and Wetter, 4,585 votes

There was a mix of old and new candidates in the August primaries. Potter rounded out in the final two out of five candidates who ran in the primaries.

District 3

Mark Daleiden won the District 3 race for Wright County Commission, taking 60 percent of the votes. Challenger Tom Darkenwald took a little over 39 percent of the votes.

The tallies show Daleiden received 5,383 votes and Darkenwald, 3,516.

District 3 includes east St. Michael, Otsego and parts of Dayton.

Daleiden said today he is shocked about the win.

"I look forward to working with the people in Wright County, especially in my district — St. Michael and Ostego area — to keep costs down," he said. "Wright County has one of the lowest tax rates in the state, and I want to continue that."

Daleiden added his goal is to find "any way that I can save taxpayers money and still provide the services that we need."

"I'm excited," he said. "It's going to be a challenge, but it'll be fun."
