Sports Roundup: Dominant Weekend For Knights

St. Michael-Albertville boys and girls soccer teams blank opponents, girls swimming and diving team breaks two pool records at Chippewa Falls Invitational.

The St. Michael-Albertville soccer teams both claimed shutout wins on their home field last weekend as both remained in second place in their respective Mississippi 8 Conference standings.

Boys Soccer

Matt Silbernagel netted both goals as the STMA boys soccer team won its second-straight contest, topping visiting Grand Rapids by a 2-0 score on Saturday.

Goalkeeper Cole Christian claimed his second shutout of the season with seven saves in the game as the Knights improved to 6-2-1 this autumn.

Girls Soccer

Behind two goals from Maddie Barr and one apiece from Andrea Boisner, Jessica Johnson and Paige Voigt, the STMA girls soccer team topped Brainerd by a 5-1 score on Saturday.

It was the second-straight win for the Knights, improved the club to 5-1-3 and ran the squad's unbeaten streak to eight games following a season-opening loss.

Girls Swimming and Diving

By winning eight of 11 events, the STMA girls swimming and diving team rolled to victory at the Chippewa Falls Invitational in Wisconsin on Saturday.

Kasey Roberts broke a 16-year-old pool record in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2 minutes, 12.64 seconds, then joined Carley Roberts, Taylor Pehrson and Katie Schmitz to snap a 21-year-old pool record in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a new standard time of 3:45.78.

Girls Tennis

The STMA girls tennis team went 2-1 as a team at the Hutchinson Invitational last Saturday, losing 6-1 to Glencoe-Silver Lake and defeating Hutchinson and Monticello by identical 4-3 scores.

Singles players Cierra Eystad, Jessica Duda and Kiana Eystad all went 2-1, as did the doubles team of Kristina Budde/Brittney Grube.

The Knights opened this week with a 6-1 loss to Blaine on Monday.

Volleyball

A four-match winning streak came to an end for the STMA volleyball team in a three-game match sweep against visiting Andover (18-25, 18-25, 22-25) on Monday night. Individual statistics were not made available.
