Sports Roundup: Knights Girls Soccer Blanks No. 8 Monticello

STMA runs unbeaten streak to sven games with Thursday night victory.

The St. Michael-Albertville girls soccer team highlighted the week's schedule with a big win on the pitch as the Knights rounded the midway point of the autumn season. 

Girls Soccer

Fourteen saves from goalkeeper MiCale Jensen and scores from Andrea Boisner, Paige Voigt and Makenzie Langdok propelled the STMA girls soccer team to a 3-0 win over eighth-ranked Monticello at home on Thursday.

The victory broke a string of three consecutive ties and pushed the 4-1-3 Knights undefeated string to seven games.

Boys Soccer

Steven Jones scored twice with Benjamin Bridell adding a goal as the STMA boys soccer team defeated Monticello, 3-2, with Knights goalie Cole Christian making 15 saves.

The win was STMA's first victory in September and improved the squad's record to 5-2-1 this autumn.

Boys Cross-Country

The STMA boys cross-country team took third place at the Rum River Invitational in Anoka on Thursday, logging 102 points in the 10-team meet.

Brendan Sage led the Knights with a third-place individual finish in 16 minutes, 35 seconds. Also finishing for STMA: Derek Johanson (17:47) in 22nd, Alex Johnson (17:51) in 23rd, Matt Eiynck (17:58), Alex Aman (18:00) in 28th, Kevin Hackenmueller (18:10) in 30th and Dominic Shovelain (18:48) in 48th.

Girls Cross-Country

The STMA girls cross-country team took fourth at the Rum River Invite, recording 88 points on Thursday.

Maddi Sjelin took sixth on the 4,000-meter course in 15:48, followed by Presley Norby in eighth with a 16:08. Also finishing for the Knights were: Beth Hinkemeyer (16:39) in 19th, Tori Hamre (17:01) in 24th, Rylee Hansen (17:56) in 31st, Cortney Woods (18:08) in 34th and Nicole Westrum (18:19) in 37th.

Girls Tennis

The STMA girls tennis team split its mid-week matchups, defeating Cambridge-Isanti 7-0 on Tuesday, then losing to 4-3 to Monticello on Thursday.

Claiming match wins against Cambridge-Isanti were: singles players Cierra Eystad, Jessica Duda, Kiana Eystad and Breanna Hagerty and doubles teams Kylie Slavin/Halley Fritze, Kristina Budde/Michaela Haraldson and Brittney Ferrian/Brittney Grube.

Nicole Logeais also won her exhibition match in straight sets. Results against Monticello were not available.

Volleyball

Back-to-back five-game match victories against Anoka and Buffalo upped the STMA volleyball team's record to 7-4 on the year. Individual statistics were not made available.

Girls Swimming and Diving

The STMA girls swimming and diving team defeated Cambridge-Isanti, 99-82, on Thursday. Individual statistics were not made available.
