St. Michael Man Killed in Collision with MnDot Snowplow

One man was killed Tuesday when his truck struck the rear end of a snowplow on Highway 10 near St. Cloud.

One man was killed Tuesday when his truck struck the rear end of a snowplow on Highway 10 near Royalton. The crash occurred while the road was covered in snow and ice.

A Minnesota Department of Transportation snowplow was driving westbound on Highway 10, actively plowing with its lights activated, when the truck driven Timothy Michael Ekhoff, 30, of St. Michael, struck the rear end of the snowplow.

Ekhoff was killed. Judy Marie Breyfogle, 57, who was driving the snowplow, suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Minnesota snowplow crashes

Last winter, there were 48 crashes involving the public and MnDot plows. This year, there have already been more than 30, according to MnDot officials.

Stay back at least five car lengths from plows, 10 if possible.

MnDOT snowplows can weigh more than 48,000 pounds, 15 times more than the average car. Be aware of plow driver blind spots and stay out of them.
