St. Michael Receives Results of Citywide Survey
A survey mailed to the more than 5,400 households of St. Michael in April has revealed a well-known void in the community.
A survey conducted by the Shop Saint Michael organization in conjunction with the I-94 West Chamber of Commerce revealed St. Michael consumers have some wants and needs that aren't being met, but are pleased with the overall state of the community.
Of the more than 5,400 surveys mailed out with cooperation from the City of St. Michael (via water usage bills), the group received more than 335 responses, or a return rate of about 6 percent.
"That's pretty good when it comes to these kinds of things," said Kathleen Poate, president of the I-94 West Chamber. "We were pleased."

The survey aimed to gauge the consumer climate in St. Michael. What businesses were succeeding in town? Where were consumers headed for other services?
Gasoline and grocery shoppers liked St. Michael's convenience, the survey stated. But, when it came to dining options and health services, other communities (Rogers and Maple Grove, in particular) topped the list.

"The overwhelming consensus, and this isn't news to anybody, is that the residents here would like to see more in terms of restaurants," said Wayne Berthiaume, chair of the Shop Saint Michael group.
Of the best reasons to hop in St. Michael, the highest responses were in favor of the location and customer service, with the preferred shopping hours of weekday evenings and weekend afternoons.
A drawing of $130 in gift certificates to various Shop Saint Michael businesses, including Dehmer's Meats, Marketplace, JR's Pizza and others, was given to Elaine Wooley of St. Michael. She filled out the survey, and was eligible for the prize.
