Big Lake Couple Brings Pro Clips Salon to St. Michael

Big Lake-based Pro Clips opened its St. Michael location last November. So far, business is sweeping up.

Pro Clips owners Brenda and Wayne Breum opened a salon in the Big Lake area back in March 2011, with sights set on serving the northwest suburbs.

With a salon that prides itself on being different and using quality hair color products, it was only a matter of time before the pair decided to expand to St. Michael.

That happened in just over eight months, as the newest Pro Clips salon opened in November, located next to and .

"They [the Breums] felt St. Michael was the next logical place," manager Robin Bollingmo said last week. Bollingmo, of Buffalo had previously worked at the Big Lake salon, but jumped at the chance to move to St. Michael.

"Brenda and Wayne looked at the market and what was missing in this area, and decided to open here. I hopped at the opportunity," Bollingmo said.

With seven stylists and a couple employees who go between both Big Lake and the St. Michael salon, Pro Clips has been well received throughout the community.

"Every month is a little bit better than the last," Bollingmo said.

"What really sets us apart is color," she added. While many local salons offer color services, they are the only local salon that prefers Wella products.

"They are so different and so true to tone," she said. Rich and vibrant colors, the staying power and incredible shine are just a few of the claims Wella makes about their products.

Pro Clips isn't a franchise but the owners are continuing to look into other locations. All of the stylists are employees of Pro Clips and not renting chairs or space. "We're really a team," Bollingmo said.

Pro Clips takes appointments and walk-ins but does request appointments for any color services. Regular store hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
