Week in Review: Snow, Sports, Spring Break and a Soccer Dome
Between Feb. 21-27, plenty was going on in and around the community. Have a read and let us know your favorite story.

The most popular story last week was the return of a week-long spring break for STMA students. Because of the odd timing of Labor Day, it had been three years since the students enjoyed a full week for spring break. While area students were understandably excited for the break, some local residents feel the extension will only prolong the school year.

The first-ever state tournament berth for the NWC RiverHawks filled headlines last week. By reaching the state tournament just five years after inception, the RiverHawks were excited to just be competing among Minnesota's top teams.

After some discussion of details and timeline for construction, the St. Michael City Council voted unanimously to lease land for a new dome to the Minnesota Kings Football Club of the National Premier Soccer League. The dome would provide an opportunity for area soccer teams to train year-round and ultimately compete on the national level.

Returning to the local girls hockey team, the week's fourth most popular story was of defeat. After losing its first game the RiverHawks went into its matchup against Elk River with optimism. After two full periods of scoreless hockey, Elk River scored its first goal on a questionable no-call that would have disallowed the goal.

Coverage of the RiverHawks first-ever state tournament game took the fifth and final spot for the week's most popular stories. Matched up against a high-powered Coon Rapids team, the Hawks lost 6-1 behind four goals from Ms. Hockey Finalist Rachel Bona.
