Whiz Kids: St. Michael-Albertville Students Lead St. Buffaville Speech Squad at Conference Meet
The St. Buffaville Team, which consists of students from St. Michael, Albertville and Buffalo, had 15 placewinners, including Great Speeches Conference Champion Alex Joos.
Alex Joos of St. Michael took first place in the Mississippi 8 Conference in the "Great Speeches" category, and several other St. Michael-Albertville students placed at the meet, held in Becker last weekend.
Earning runner-up conference champion awards were Mandy Comstock in the drama category, Jed Rothstein in extemp speaking and Isaac Heiei in prose.
Other placewinners were Caitlin Duley, Gabrielle Thompson, Sara Morgan, Leadh Odegard, Amy Potter, Nocle Logeais, Katrina Budde, Cody Goodchild, Sara Kulzer, Conrad Weinzetl, Kim Morain and Mike Papas.

The St. Buffaville Speech Team will host a meet Saturday at the St. Michael-Albertville Performing Arts Center Saturday, with competition running throughout the day.
Earlier this month, St. Michael-Albertville's Goodchild and Rothstein each qualified for the National Forensic League's National Tournament, which will be held in Dallas this summer, June 13-18.
