Why do yoga? Yes, yoga helps us to become stronger, more flexible and is a healthy coping skill to manageΒ Β tension and anxiety. Β Students inΒ my classes have shared anecdotes ofΒ decreased chronic pain and improvedΒ joint mobility. Plus, you just feel darn good afterwords! However, don't just take my word for it. Being a bit of a data nerd (I love statistics), I was pleasantly surprised when I saw a recent Yoga Journal article that reviewed several health benefits of yoga-many of them backed by what seems to be fairlyΒ credible research. I was pleased to discover that the scientific and medical communities are taking a closer look at yoga and the mind/body connection. It is not a panacea by any means, but there is a varietyΒ of benefits that it can provide. Some additional benefits include improved sleep, decreased symptoms of depression, improved attention, weight management, improved immunity, increased positive thinking, and even increased libido! Check out the article for yourself below. In the meantime, remember that your mental health is just as important as your physical health.Β
Namaste,
Jen
