Wright County To Be Part Of Free Coronavirus Saliva Test Pilot Project

The Minnesota Department of Health announced today that it has started a pilot project for the COVID-19 Test at Home Saliva Program. The program involves 23 counties, including Wright County, as well as the Red Lake Nation.

The testing is free and residents of the selected counties can order a test online and perform their own COVID-19 test from their own homes. The areas selected for the pilot program represent a geographically diverse areas of the state, with priority given to those locations that currently do not have a saliva testing location or where community testing events have been limited.

Minnesota currently has four saliva testing sites open – in Brooklyn Park, Duluth, Moorhead and Winona. That number is expected to more than double in the coming weeks.

The test will be shipped to the home of those who order online and they perform the test under the supervision of a heath care professional via a video telehealth visit. The test is shipped to the state’s saliva lab in Oakdale, where results are emailed back within 24 to 48 hours upon receipt.
