Wright County Government: Fish Houses Need To Be Removed From Lakes By March 7

Anglers who were looking to spend this weekend taking their fish houses off area lakes may not have to because of a calendar anomaly this year.

In previous years, the deadline to have fish houses removed from lakes has been earlier than it will be this year. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources typically requires that fish houses be off lakes south of a line running east to west from approximately Duluth to Fargo-Moorhead by midnight on the first Monday of the month.

Since March begins on a Tuesday in 2022, the date to remove fish houses is as late as it possibly can be – 11:59 p.m. Monday, March 7.

Procrastinators who hate the drudgery of removing fish houses that have taken root on the ice sheet of an area lake have two more weekends to make the decision of when to remove them – thanks to a calendar quirk that buys them some extra time.
